Spring Is Coming

Spring Coming - Copy.jpg

Spring is coming…..I imagine that is far more funny in my head than it will be for those of you reading this. Plus if I’m honest I don’t really know why it’s funny because I’ve never even seen the show that says Winter is coming. Is that even the statement made? Gosh I’m a dork, but I gotta start the blog post somehow.  Spring is coming and I really freaking excited.

Midwest Living

I’m a Midwestern girl born and raised. There isn’t a meme about the Midwest that doesn’t ring painfully true to me. I’m sure others think that the meme applies to them more than me but what are you going to do? (But seriously I went down a meme rabbit hole and laughed for a solid 20 minutes because they were all true.) Either way, spring approaching is a very exciting thing. This spring just feels so much more exciting than any other spring. It might always feel like that but I’m convinced that this spring is more important than any other I can remember. There’s so much more hope and a feeling of rebirth that I just can’t explain or even comprehend. By the time I have posted this most of us will have officially surpassed a year of lockdown/social distancing/flattening the curve/stay at home orders or some weird combination of all of the above and then some. For me, last spring was when the pandemic really started to hit home. The little’s school shut down for virtual learning and we started to see a growing number of cases in our town. I spent a good amount of time trying to calm my anxiety and ignore the world around me. I didn’t really get to appreciate spring. To say I’m excited and looking forward to this spring is an understatement. To say my littles are looking forward to it is an understatement to the extreme.

This past week has been absolutely gorgeous; it’s been in the mid 30’s to low 40’s with little to no wind and sun shining. We’ve spent more time outside in the last week than we probably have in the past 2 months put together.

Enjoying the Beautiful Weather

One day after school the littles wanted to go for a walk, even the teenager agreed. It was simply too nice to not go outside.

We decided to just walk around the neighborhood. It might be nice out but there’s still snow on the ground but in amusing places. For example one side of the street still has over a foot of snow but the other side of the street you can see the grass with hardly any snow.  We’re on our walk and we obviously have to go back and forth. We walk through the snow and kick it around to see if it can hold our weight or if we’ll sink through and get snow in our boots. Then we cross over to the grass so that we can see all the things that have been hiding beneath the snow. You know, the important things like the sidewalk, garbage, grass and doggy doo. Then back across the street to kick through the snow again. During one of our trysts across the street the littlest little stops to pick up a rock for his rock collection. (This is something all littles do, right? I can’t be the only one that has rocks all over their house.) The littlest little starts making their way to me to show off their new rock. You guys…it’s a chunk of the road. The little’s rock is a chunk of the road….and they’re so proud of their new addition. (So add to my rock collection a chunk of road. This chunk of road moves from place to place wandering around my house because there is no way they’ll forget that they own it now.)

The next day it’s nice again. The littlest little decides they want to come to the bus stop. (This is not a normal occurrence during the winter. They normally stay home because they really don’t handle the cold well and it’s just easier.) It’s so nice out I decide that I am ok with this. This has absolutely made their day. They get to go outside two days in a row, what could be better? As we’re walking back home from the bus stop they bend over to pick something up, “can I bring this home?” Y’all….(no,it wasn’t the road this time)….it was a clump of dead grass. So I say, of course you can bring it home, but it has to stay outside.

Moral of the story? Check on your Midwestern friends, I’m not sure we’re ok.

Nah,I’m joking. We’re doing fine we’re just getting a little squirrely as the weather starts to change for the better. The energy in our house is a little intense right now but better weather is on the way and before we know it we will be complaining about the heat.

As always, stay positive and much love
