New Year’s Goals

Preparing For The New Year

2020 turned out to be one heck of a year, didn’t it? I’m hoping 2021 will turn out to be a lot less eventful. You will have to mentally prepare for a year whether it turns out to be better or worse than you expected. How else to start the year than with a resolution? I prefer goals rather than resolutions. When I asked my family what some of our goals for the New Year should be we then had to discuss the difference between goals and resolutions. According to the dictionary online a resolution is “a firm decision to do or not do something”, a goal is “the object of a person’s ambition or effort”. We decided as a family that a goal is something that has specific steps to be taken and deadlines attached to those steps. A resolution is more a statement of intentions without any specific plans or steps. It turns out maybe I do have resolutions more than goals. I have ideas of what I would like to accomplish but the how and when are a lot vaguer.

When I first started my blog and even now, I didn’t really know what I’m doing. I do know when I started my blog that I wanted to help make the world or at least someone’s world a little better. The world we live in now can feel really bleak and leave you feeling helpless. I want to focus on the good and the steps we can take to make the world better, whether that be physically, emotionally, psychologically, or spiritually or any other variations in-between.  I want people to be able to see the good in the world and feel hopeful rather than hopeless. With that being said, I have two main goals. My first goal is become a better blogger. My second goal is to grow my audience.

Improvement

My first goal seems obvious to me and also seems like it will be integral to making my second goal a success. I know that as a novice there is always room to improve. As someone that also feels like I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time I know that the best way to correct that is to learn more about the process. It’s important to me to continually learn. Even when we are experts there is always something more to learn. Education and learning is very important and something that I definitely want to instill in my children. This doesn’t need to be formal education but just a genuine curiosity about the world around us. I truly believe that everyone has some knowledge that we don’t have and we can learn from everyone we meet. So, what specifically do I want to l learn this year to become a better blogger? Well, a lot but step one is to focus on learning how to design a better website. I can have the greatest information and writing in the world but if I have a horrible platform few will be interested enough to navigate through to find the fabulousness that is my writing. Step two is to learn how to be a better writer. I know that I have great ideas rolling around in this head of mine I’m just not as confident that I have the skill to portray that information to you in an engaging way. Third I want to become a better picture taker. To use the term photographer, I know that with my skill right now that is an insult to true photographers.

Growing A Community

My second goal of growing my audience sounds really vain, I understand that. However I can’t fulfill my real goal if I don’t have an audience to begin with.  My real goal is actually to create a community. I genuinely want to create a community of likeminded people, people who want to see and be the good in the world. A community of people who want to know what they can do to really make a change in people’s lives and the world around them. To create a community of people who have a passion to make a difference but don’t necessarily have all the answers individually. I want us to help each other so that in turn we can help others. I want to create the community of people that I so desperately want in my life but I haven’t been able to find yet. As they say in Field of Dreams, “if you build it, he will come”.

So what are your goals or resolutions for the year? What would you like to see more of this year?

Remember, stay positive and share positivity. Much love!
